If there is anything this year has taught me, it’s that hospitality is as important as ever. Finding community since the arrival of the coronavirus has been a long and arduous journey, let alone all the other challenges that have come along.

Now, we have a polarized political climate edging into epic disaster land. The need for hospitality has taken on new dimensions. What was once a simple meal with friends is now a safe haven for camaraderie.

Before I go any further, let’s review the definition of hospitality:

1: hospitable treatment, reception, or disposition (and) 2: the activity or business of providing services to guests in hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. — From the Merriam Webster dictionary

…and the definition of hospitable:

1 a: given to generous and cordial reception of guests (and) b: promising or suggesting generous and friendly welcome (and) c: offering a pleasant or sustaining environment — From the Merriam Webster dictionary

Hospitality is a generous, friendly reception in a pleasant environment. Where we can, for a little while, be reminded of our humanity.
